Tips on Wall Construction

Walls are constructed with the two primary components, they are called the structure and finish materials.

Structure

The structure is used for the house service utilities which provides support for the upper portion of the building, and is the means of attachment for the finish materials or the insulation. They are built in two main divisions, i.e. the interior walls and the exterior walls.

The interior wall structure is constructed in two different primary categories, known as the load bearing, and the non-load bearing. Though not common, many house owners choose to insulate the walls to reduce the sound transmission and lower heat loss in vacant rooms.

The interior load-bearing walls are constructed perpendicular and as support for the ceiling joists, upper floor joists, or for the framed roof assemblies. The openings in load bearing walls are fitted with headers, or the small beams which are supported on shorter studs with spanning the required width and height of the opening in the wall.

Finish

There are two main areas on the walls, over which a finish will be applied and they include the exterior exposed surface and the interior exposed surface. The finish material provides an appealing surface, guard the utility lines and also reduces the transmission of the sound and heat.

Interior exposed surfaces

The most expensive and durable exterior finish is the popular brick siding. They come in various colors and with different types of textures. Brick siding is the very durable and also maintenance free finish which requires no maintenance or upkeep, while giving a very solid or stoic feels to the home. It is relatively costly to install but still remains the popular choice for a modern buildings.
