Wiring a house can be on the surface, where the cables are laid on the surfaces of the wall and held by the clips; or conduit, where the cables are concealed through PVC pipes laid inside the wall. The cables used for the surface wiring are usually made up of two or three insulated wires. Cables for the conduit wiring on other hand, are single-wire insulator, to enable the easy way over the PVC pipes. Channel wiring is recommendation as its nature of elegance but caution must be taken to safeguard that a trained electrician is engaged to take care of the task and that only good things are used. This is because if a fault arise in a conduit case, it is difficult to trace and may result in outbreak of fire.

The important thing to remember is that basic house wiring can be hazardous. Never attempt to do wiring without the good understanding of how it works and safe work practices.

There are also the copper and aluminum variants of wires. Because of the aluminum greater resistivity and more requirement of conductor, copper wire is mainly recommended.
